Welcome to Finikounda!
Finikounda is a picturesque fishing village built by the sea and nearly washed by the waves. It lies at the center of a small bay in the south corner of Peloponnese, between the historical towns Methoni and Koroni. Built in a wonderful landscape with crystal clear sand or fine pebble beaches, bathed in the sunshine and the fertile slopes where grow olive groves, Finikounda welcomes you. Smells and tastes brought by the sea breeze, hospitable people and delicious fresh fish are some of the features of a pure land that invites you to discover it and fills you out of joy, serenity and liveliness. Finikounda has got a very long history, as well. Contemporary Finikounda is built upon the ancient settlement described by Pausanias as the “Phoenician port”. Remains of ancient sites have been discovered in the area. For those who love sightseeing, Finikounda constitutes a perfect starting point for excursions at the castles of Methoni and Koroni, the castles Niokastro, Old Navarino and the Marine Archeology Museum of Pylos, the Mycenaean palace of Nestor with the vaulted tombs at Chora, Ancient Messini, the Island of Sapientza and the waterfalls of Polylimnio Xaravgis.
